Ground Penetrating Radar uses high-frequency radio waves to create a subsurface image of your concrete — without damaging the structure.
A GPR antenna emits radio waves into concrete. When those waves hit an object or material change, they bounce back. The antenna captures those reflections and creates a profile called a radargram — a cross-sectional image of what's inside the concrete.
We move the GPR antenna systematically over the concrete surface to collect subsurface data.
Scan data is processed in the field and reviewed by our experienced technicians.
Targets and anomalies are identified, interpreted and their locations noted.
You receive surface markings, scan images and/or a detailed report with findings.
GPR is powerful, but it has limitations. Here's what you can realistically expect.
Rebar location, depth and approximate spacing • Post-tension cables and ducts • Metallic and some non-metallic conduits • Voids and delamination anomalies • Slab thickness (with calibration) • Material layer changes
GPR cannot see through metal decking • Dense or closely spaced rebar may limit depth visibility • Cannot determine rebar size precisely • Results depend on concrete composition and moisture • Not all non-metallic objects are detectable • Detection depth is typically limited to ~450mm
Detected targets are marked directly on the concrete surface using paint or markers for field reference.
